Boston, MA (May 7, 2015) – City Year, a national education organization that unites young adults for a year of service in high-need urban schools, is pleased to announce its partnership with CollegeWeekLive (CWL), the leading website where students and colleges meet online. City Year increases high school graduation rates by deploying City Year AmeriCorps members to provide direct support to students who are at risk of poor attendance, behavior incidents, and course failure.
“City Year taps the energy and talents of diverse young adults in national service to dramatically increase the number of high school graduates in low-income areas,” said CWL President Sumant Mauskar. “The alliance between our organizations is a natural fit. We’re both focused on improving student outcomes and giving students access to higher education outcomes. We’re proud to partner with City Year to support this joint mission.”
Through this partnership, City Year will work with CWL to meet and engage prospective AmeriCorps members through online events and chat sessions. At the same time, City Year will introduce high school students to CWL, as a means to help them navigate the college admissions process. Students can visit CWL to live chat with admissions counselors from more than 250 colleges and universities and gain advice from education professionals about achieving their college dreams.
“This partnership allows City Year to engage with college-bound students in a space where they and their parents are able to access information at their convenience. CWL helps level the playing field for students who can’t afford to visit campus in-person, who may be the first in their family to attend college, and who may be interested in other opportunities as well,” said Melanie Brennand Mueller, Vice President of Recruitment & Admissions. “We’re excited to partner with CWL to support students’ college journeys, and believe that a year of service with City Year creates more engaged and active young citizens who will maximize their time in college, having dedicated a year to helping solve one of this country's most pressing issues - education.”
