CollegeWeekLive Hosts World’s Largest Science and Technology College Fair

Over 3,500 Students Chat Live with Admissions Officers from Top Science Universities

Boston, MA May 6, 2011 - CollegeWeekLive, provider of the world's largest college fairs and admissions events, hosted their first science college fair -- Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Day -- on April 26, 2011. CollegeWeekLive STEM Day brought together over 3,500 students from all 50 states and over 100 countries with the top science universities in the U.S. Students chatted live with admissions reps, science faculty and current students to narrow down their school choices and increase their chances of acceptance by demonstrating their interest in attending a particular school.

“CollegeWeekLive is excited at the reach colleges saw from a very well qualified pool of candidates across a broad geographic. Students averaged above the national average in SAT scores and ACT scores by 20%. Just as important, they represented students from 50 states and 100 countries,” said Greg Wilkins, Vice President of CollegeWeekLive Sales.

Over 60 of the nation’s top science universities took part in the STEM Day event including Stanford University, Columbia University, Michigan Technological University, Texas Tech University, Johns Hopkins University, Georgia Tech and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. CollegeWeekLive helped universities reach a targeted group of students interested in the fields of science, technology, engineering or math in a way that only a virtual event would allow. Colleges were particularly pleased with the caliber of student that attended the event – Students exceeded the national average in terms of GPA, SAT and ACT scores! See below for a full list of participating colleges.

“CollegeWeekLive’s STEM Day was a great opportunity for us to share information with students interested specifically in Stanford’s Engineering and Technology programs, regardless of their location. Being able to provide content to hundreds of local, national and international students all with the same academic focus is beneficial for the audience and Stanford,” said Bob Patterson, Director of Admissions at Stanford University.

CollegeWeekLive STEM Day also featured special live video presentations from science and technology leaders about careers. A speaker from NASA spoke about “Hands-On Experiences with a NASA Internship.” Gerald Gabrielse, a professor at Harvard University, spoke about “Physics: A Stimulating Career with Many Toys.” A representative from JETS, the Junior Engineering Technical Society, talked about “Inspiring Students to Develop Their Potential for Engineering.” Students particularly enjoyed the video presentation “From College to Xbox” by Richard Speyer, a software developer at Xbox. Richard led students through his career path to Xbox and inspired students to reach for their dream “cool” job.

CollegeWeekLive ran a special $3,141.59 Pi Scholarship contest for STEM Day where students could submit their best representation of Pi through the medium of their choice. Over 200 students participated in the scholarship sending in videos, poems, photographs and more. The top 20 submissions can be found at CollegeWeekLive.com. Daniel Slonim from Anderson, Indiana won the scholarship with his skit using the digits of Pi to hold a conversation.
